• SAFED MUSLI

The Plant:- Safed Musli is among the 20-odd species of native medicinal plants that enjoy extensive therapeutic application and expansive global market. Known by different names across the country, it has been one of the chief ingredients in Ayurveda and other local folklore medicines for ages. Indeed, one comes across vivid accounts of the versatile therapeutic value of Safed Musli in the Indian mythology and medicinal treatises.

Applications/Uses:-

In the Ayurvedic literature, Safed Musli is celebrated as a Divya Aushad with unparalleled medicinal properties. It is a chief ingredient in the preparation of over a hundred Ayurvedic formulations. Besides its extensive use in Ayurveda and other conventional medicinal systems in Asia, Safed Musli is also gaining increasing acceptance as a vitalizer and health-giving tonic, a curative for pre-natal and post-natal problems, a restorative for immunity-improvement and as a remedy for diabetes and arthritis.
Alongside, the recent discovery of Safed Musli as a natural and safe aphrodisiac agent has also opened up new channels of application and new demand for it. By virtue of being a herb, Safed Musli has been found to be an ideal aphrodisiac with no negative side-effects associated with chemical-based aphrodisiac. Among the numerous uses and of Safed Musli, the most important of them include the following :

  • As a principal ingredient in Ayurvedic, Unani and Allopathy applications
  • As a vitalizer and health-giving tonic
  • As a curative for pre-natal and post-natal problems
  • As a natural aphrodisiac alternative to viagara
  • As a restorative for immunity-improvement
  • As a remedy for diabetes and arthritis

Safed Musli, like most other medicinal plants, is a widely wild-harvested species that finds itself on the verge of extinction. Notified by the Government as an endangered species, mainstream cultivation is the only means by which it can be preserved and its medicinal benefits passed on for the posterity. A growing awareness of the excellent marketable potential of Safed Musli is beginning with the active propagation and promotion of its commercial cultivation by various agencies. If the increasing patronage of herbal-based health products in the USA and Europe is anything to go by, medicinal plants hold out unmatched prospects for the commercial cultivators.
